Sustain future generations of craftspeople with a legacy gift


With a legacy or planned gift such as a bequest in your will, you can leave your legacy on the future of woodworkers.  A simple process, a bequest is a provision in your will where you decide to have your estate (or a portion of it) benefit a charitable organization.  We hope you will consider putting the Port Townsend School of Woodworking and Preservation Trades in your will to leave your woodworking legacy.    

Sample Bequest Language

If you are considering a bequest to the School, the following language can be shared with your legal adviser to set up your wishes:  After fulfilling all other specific provisions, I give, devise and bequeath ___% of the rest residue and remainder of my estate (or $________ if a specific amount) to the Port Townsend School of Woodworking and Preservation Trades, a charitable corporation (tax ID# 27-0756635, WA State UBI# 602 951 061, Secretary of State Charitable Organization #1127701) currently located at 200 Battery Way, Port Townsend WA 98368

Why Choose a Bequest?

  • You have worked your whole life for these resources, now you can make the choice to ensure that it supports what you believe in.

  • It does not affect your assets or cash flow during your lifetime.

  • It is revocable – you can change the provisions in your will at any time, and

  • It is private – your will is not filed or made public while you are living.

  • You have options – your bequest can be specific such as “I bequeath the sum of twenty thousand ($20,000) dollars" or it can cover the a percentage of the balance remaining in your estate after taxes, expenses and specific bequests have been paid — what's known as the residue "I bequeath thirty (30%) percent of the residue of my estate".

  • Your bequest can be unrestricted and allow us to use it for our greatest need when we receive your gift or you can designate what your gifts goes towards at the School such as Scholarships.

  • A bequest to the Port Townsend School of Woodworking and Preservation Trades is fully deductible for federal estate tax purposes and there is no limit on the deduction your estate can claim.

  • You can amend a current will to make a gift without rewriting the entire document. Your attorney can prepare a simple document, called a codicil, which adds a new bequest to us while reaffirming the other terms of your will.
